Muskegon, MI — The Great Lakes and connecting waterways have provided an efficient mode of transportation and an abundance of natural resources to support the evolution of manufacturing and construction in the our region. The family-owned companies of Verplank and Sand Products together have participated in over a century of this history. And, to capture the growth opportunities in the region along with offering more efficient transportation options, the companies have formed West Michigan Port Operators (WMPO).

Blowing in the Wind - Muskegon, MI & The Future of Offshore Wind Generation

This 12 minute film tells the story of the development of Offshore Wind Generation in Lake Michigan in 2009-2010 including the work of the Governor's GLOW Council, proposals by Scandia Wind, and the resistance posed by some shoreline land owners. It answers the questions "Why Offshore Wind?" "Why Lake Michigan?" and "What unique capacities does the Muskegon area of Michigan bring to this new industry?"
